新学期的学术报告，将于2008年2月22日开始。美国San Diego的Ralph Greenspan教授将在北京大学生命科学学院报告厅，讲“基因网络和行为”。Greenspan教授是著名遗传学家，曾任教于普林斯顿大学、纽约大学、和Roche研究所等。他写的书是许多果蝇研究者的常用书。近年，他研究基因和行为的关系。

2008年2月21日，美国Greenspan教授讲“细胞机制的起源和进化”。这是北大生命科学学院《细胞生物学》课程的一部分。Greenspan教授将讲四个学时。他将从进化的角度，讲细胞生物学。

第一学时-- Pre-cellular origins: prebiotic chemistry and thermodynamic issues, evidence from DNA phylogeny and geochemical fossil evidence, origins of cells.
第二学时 -- The anaerobic prokaryotic world: origins of photosynthesis, cellular mechanisms and metabolism, extremophiles, translational machinery as oldest, horizontal gene transfer.
第三学时 -- The oxygen revolution: metabolic innovations, theories and DNA phylogeny evidence for eukaryotic origins, subcellular specializations.
第四学时 -- The origins of multicellularity: pre-existence of metazoan molecules in unicellular organisms, transitional multicellular forms, animal origins, germ layers, organ systems.

星期四上午两讲（第三、四节课），在一教101教室。晚上两讲（第十一、十二节课），在理教107教室。

开《细胞生物学》的同学优先。欢迎其他同学旁听。
